A Windows PC’s registry is like the head gasket on a car. Not many people are extensively familiar with it, but it’s critical for everything to function correctly. In the same way that a blown gasket can make your car inoperable, a registry full of errors or abandoned entries can make your PC inoperable.

It used to be that cleaning a registry with errors was a complicated procedure, requiring costly service from a computer technician. Software now automates the process, making it possible for you to get your computer running smoothly again without paying a lot of money. There are a number of tools available, and Wise Registry Cleaner is one of the names that has been getting a lot more attention lately.

Wise Registry Cleaner is free, and it offers to clean your registry quickly and without risking any harm to your system. If your PC isn’t running as fast as it used to, then you owe it to yourself to read on. Wise Registry Cleaner just might be the solution you’ve been waiting for!

What is Wise Registry Cleaner?

Wise Registry Cleaner is advertised as being able to clean out the junk in your PC. In a nutshell, the software scans your PC, flagging entries that is identifies as being potentially unwanted. From there, you can clean out your registry in seconds, returning your PC to its former glory.

Wise Registry Cleaner isn’t just a fly-by-night utility, either. Its website declares that it is an award-winning registry cleaner, receiving recognition in major tech sites as well as computer magazines. There are a few features that Wise Registry Cleaner offers.

Obviously, the software cleans your PC’s registry. Thanks to its advanced scanning algorithm, it’s able to clean your registry in seconds instead of hours. It also features three tools in addition to its registry cleaner, including utilities for backing up, restoring and defragmenting your registry.

How Wise Registry Cleaner Works

At this point, you’re probably wondering how the software works. Wise Registry Cleaner works in a few quick and easy steps.

Step 1: Wise Registry Cleaner scans the registry. This is the most critical part of the entire process. It goes through your registry in seconds, indexing your computer’s entire registry.

Step 2: Wise Registry Cleaner flags bad or orphaned entries after indexing your registry. It flags entries that can be removed and have a positive impact on your computer’s speed

Step 3: Wise Registry Cleaner displays entries that it sees as safe to remove, and also lists those that might be safe. If you’re a novice, you can just delete the entries listed as safe. If you’re an advanced user, you can parse through the questionable entries and choose what to remove one-by-one.

Wise Registry Cleaner Benefits

Thanks to all of these exciting benefits, Wise Registry Cleaner provides a few direct benefits to you as soon as you start using it.

Quickly heals affected PCs.

This is the main reason to install Wise Registry Cleaner. Once it’s installed, it operates in just seconds. If your PC is running slowly, Wise Registry Cleaner puts you within moments of curing it.

Distinguishes between entries that are safe to delete and entries that are dangerous to delete.

A major issue with registry cleaners of the past is that they would inadvertently delete registry entries that were necessary for your computer’s performance. Wise Registry Cleaner lists registry entries at once, but it grades them based on how safe they are to remove. Users who aren’t technically advanced don’t risk harming their computer’s performance. Yet, at the same time, advanced users can still get a great deal of use from the software.

A backup feature saves users from themselves.

Even users who consider themselves to be advanced will still make mistakes from time to time. With its backup feature, Wise Registry Cleaner allows users to quickly resolve any errors they run into. If you make an adjustment to your registry and it backfires, just use the included restoration tool.

Includes a scheduling feature for hands-free maintenance.

Registry maintenance is something that needs to be done regularly. With a built-in scheduling tool, you can configure Wise Registry Cleaner to run on a predetermined basis. This way, you won’t have to constantly worry about manually fixing your computer.

Free and unlimited technical support.

The software is easy enough to use, but some users might still have problems with it or other questions. Wise Registry Cleaner provides free technical support to users of the software. Because of this, you’ll never be stranded with an issue.

Any Downsides to Wise Registry Cleaner?

No software is perfect. Wise Registry Cleaner offers a lot of benefit to its users. It does have some disadvantages, though.

The biggest drawback to Wise Registry Cleaner is the companion software that it comes with. Even though it’s a free download, it tries rather slyly to have users install an additional toolbar and other cleaning software. This can be opted out of, but many users will simply fly through installation and find themselves with a couple of unwanted pieces of software to uninstall.

One other drawback of Wise is that it allows users to remove files from their registry that might not actually be unnecessary. While it does let users know what files are safe to remove and what files are just “probably” safe to remove, this might encourage some users to overstep their boundaries. The software could rectify this issue by asking users to select their skill level and then only showing the appropriate files.

Can Wise Registry Cleaner Help Me?

If your computer is running slow and you want a quick, free solution, then Wise Registry Cleaner might be for you. It’s earned positive reviews from a number of internet outlets, and it does operate quickly.

Unfortunately, the drawbacks are too much to ignore. Giving users the ability and even encouraging them to remove necessary system files can have grave consequences. It did not make our top 10 registry cleaners for 2012. If you do use the software, proceed with caution. Wise Registry Cleaner can be a very effective utility, but it can also wreak havoc if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.

Anyone who’s ever bought a new PC can attest to this fact. It’s an unfortunate fact of life.

One positive takeaway, though, is that a PC that slows down doesn’t have to stay that way. While hardware issues can cause computers to slow down, that’s most often not the case. Most of the time, problems with a computer running slow stem from errors in the Windows registry. Registry errors can cause your computer to run slower, crash unexpectedly and worse.

If problems like this are plaguing your computer, then you should strongly consider CleanMyPC. Read on to find out how CleanMyPC works, what it can do for you, and whether it’s worth trying. You might find out that your computer can be running smoothly again in no time!

What is CleanMyPC?

CleanMyPC is a software solution for the registry issues that cause grief for so many PC owners. Specifically, CleanMyPC is a software tool designed specifically to clean your computer’s registry and get it running smoothly again. It scans through the Windows registry, removing any outdated files or other bloat in order to promote faster performance.

Compatibility isn’t an issue with CleanMyPC. It runs on virtually every edition of Windows in the last decade, as well as more obscure versions such as Windows ME and Windows 98. CleanMyPC is built to be a compact program, skipping on flashy features to deliver a robust experience aimed at generating results.

Because of this, CleanMyPC is a terrific solution if you’re looking for a program that will speed your PC up without taking up a large amount of space on your computer. You’ll be able to purchase it and use it out of the box, but you get lifetime free customer support in case you ever do need assistance with it.

How CleanMyPC Works

CleanMyPC works in a few quick and easy steps.

Step 1: Scan the Registry. CleanMyPC loads your PC’s registry. It combs through, finding obsolete or otherwise worthless registry entries. It checks these against a database of bad entries, making sure that it only tags unnecessary entries.

Step 2: Results. CleanMyPC lists its findings, allowing you to see exactly what is plaguing your PC.

Step 3: The Cleansing. This is the most satisfying part of using CleanMyPC. All you need to do is click a button and CleanMyPC removes all of the registry issues that it has detected.

CleanMyPC Benefits

Now you know how CleanMyPC works, but you’re probably wondering exactly how it will benefit you. CleanMyPC benefits you in a number of ways.

The registry is the backbone of Windows, and CleanMyPC fixes it.

The registry is referenced by every program that runs on your Windows PC. It stores the settings and configurations for the Windows operating system. Because it is such a critical component of Windows and accessed so frequently, even the smallest registry errors can have a significant impact on your computer’s performance. By cleaning the registry, CleanMyPC is fixing the most important part of your computer and providing more improvement at once than any other piece of software can.

CleanMyPC features a backup/restore function.

One of the great features of CleanMyPC is that it gives you a choice of what you remove. Even though CleanMyPC does everything to make sure you only delete files that are truly unnecessary, sometimes a mistake might be made to where you want to reverse the process. CleanMyPC features a robust backup and restore feature, allowing you to undo any changes you make if you decide they were the wrong changes to make.

CleanMyPC stops registry errors before they happen.

Besides obsolete files, other issues that can cause your computer’s registry to run slow can stem from malware, such as Trojans and spyware. With CleanMyPC, you get a preventative solution to this because CleanMyPC kills Trojans and spyware before they have a chance to do damage to your registry. With this protection, owning CleanMyPC doesn’t just mean you can fix the registry errors you have now. It means you can prevent them from occurring in the future as well.

CleanMyPC lets you easily manage the Windows AutoRun feature.

Windows has a feature known as AutoRun that allows programs to launch whenever you start your computer up. Most of these programs never ask for permission to launch, they just do it on their own. Windows doesn’t provide an easy way to decide what can run when you boot your computer. This means that over time, you might end up with dozens of programs all trying to launch when you turn on your computer.

When this happens, turning your computer on can end up taking much longer than it should. CleanMyPC includes a tool to manage AutoRun. With CleanMyPC, you can stop programs from launching automatically and make your PC boot up faster.

Any Downsides to CleanMyPC?

CleanMyPC isn’t without its downsides. The biggest issue that plagues it is the fact that the software allows you to remove files that are actually necessary for certain hardware or software, and in some cases recommends it. Software such as printer drivers might be removed by CleanMyPC, making hardware that you normally use with your PC completely nonfunctional.

Of course, this is totally reversible thanks to the backup and restore feature. It’s still a major downside, though. Removing and re-adding necessary registry entries or other software is time-consuming, and if you aren’t very familiar with the process it can also be puzzling.

Another minor downside of the software is that the trial doesn’t allow you to remove errors it finds, it only shows you what it’s found. That means that in some situations, users might buy the software and then realize that the wrong files were removed. It’s not likely that this will happen, but it’s still a possibility.

CleanMyPC Screenshots

Can CleanMyPC Help Me?

If your computer is running slowly, then CleanMyPC is worth a long, hard look. It’s a very effective piece of maintenance software, and certainly has the potential to clean up a PC that’s suffering from errors. The fact that it protects against Trojans and other malware is just an added bonus. Even if your computer is running smoothly, it can be a useful piece of software to have in your arsenal because of the preventative maintenance it performs in protecting your computer’s registry.

You should be judicious in your decision of whether or not to purchase CleanMyPC, though. Some of the drawbacks that it has are pretty significant. The software did not make our list of best registry cleaners for 2012. This means that there are better options on the market, so you should be sure to evaluate alternatives before deciding to make a purchase.

If you own a PC, then chances are that you have experienced unexpected changes in its performance since you first purchased it. The most likely reason behind this is because your hard-drive is clattered with dangerous malware, junk files and a whole host of other performance reducing files. The bad thing about these files is that for most of us, they are near impossible to find and remove.

However, as with most problems, it can be fixed. Good solutions are hard to come by given the nature of the internet – but, tests have shown that one of the most reliable and effective pieces of software for restoring the health of your computer system, is SpeedyPC Pro.

If your computer encounters any of the following problems, then you MUST read on.

Slow performance

Constant crashing and freezing

Eradicate actions

Lack of protection

What Is SpeedyPC Pro?

SpeedyPC Pro is a registry cleaning program that runs on Windows. The software has been designed to help computers get rid of the ‘junk’ that may be clogging up the performance of their computer speed. The software works by scanning through the entirety of your PC folders and identifying any files that could be a threat to your system.

The software runs on most forms of Windows operating systems and can be installed and ready to use in a matter of minutes. One of the main goals is to provide an effective solution that is quick and easy to use so that people with all levels of expertise can benefit from the software.

For people looking to optimize the performance of their PC, this utility has more advanced settings that can help your computer improve start up times and defrag your computer. Ultimately, your one stop solution to solving most of your PC performance needs.

How It Works

To get a better understanding of how this software works – here is a breakdown of how the software finds and eliminates problematic files from your PC.

Step 1 – The scan

The first event that takes place is ‘the scan’. Once you load the program onto your computer you will get the option to instantly scan your PC for all the bad files it contains. Finding these files is extremely hard to do without the use of software, and it can find them ALL with just the click of a couple buttons.

Step 2 – The results

Now that your scan has finished, it’s time to look at the results. The utility will list ALL of the potential registry problems that lie within your PC. You will get reports on both the performance health of your PC and the security health – of which are displayed in a matter that is easy to understand for everyone.

Step 3 – The clean

Now you’ve seen the horrible files slowing down your PC performance, it’s time to get rid of them for good. A single click of the ‘fix all’ button will start to remove all the problematic files that it found. This is obviously the most important step to using the software, and once this step is complete, you will be able to enjoy the performance of your PC.

The Benefits of Using SpeedyPC Pro

We know that SpeedyPC Pro can clear the dangerous files from our PC’s – but what exactly can it eliminate from our computers? Let’s take a look at some of the most vital benefits.

Eliminating malware

If you don’t know what malware is, then you should. Malware is a form of computer ‘evil’ that infests itself in your computer and can potentially steal person information, passwords, bank information and much more. Needless to say, getting rid of these types of files is a MUST – and that is exactly what it does. Finding these type of files is easy for the program and allows you greater piece of mind knowing they no longer reside on your computer.

Speed up your PC

As previously stated; having hundreds of ‘dirty’ files on your computer that clog up your registry can cause your PC to slow down. Having a slow PC can not only be frustrating, but can be extremely costly if you rely on your PC for work. The program finds ALL the files that are causing your PC to slow down and eradicates them at the touch of a button. Having a healthy PC system will now allow it run much quicker and experience less freezing.

A good clean-up

As with most things in life; when we own something long enough, it will start to function badly – and a computer is no exception. Every day your computer is taking in all kinds of files (dangerous or not) and those files are stored on your hard-drive. Your computer will eventually become full to the brim with unwanted files, like temporary internet files, that you don’t need. SpeedyPC Pro helps to clear these files and make your PC feel brand new again.

Registry clean

Having a clean registry is vital. Your Windows registry contains all kinds of different files – some that record settings, control applications and much more. When you get corrupt files within this registry, your computer will start to perform slowly and freeze at inappropriate times. To combat this, it helps remove the following:

Shell extensions

ActiveX

File path references

Application paths

Shared dlls

And a whole load more

Once your PC is free of these obscurities, it can then begin to perform at a higher level.

Easy to use

The SpeedyPC Pro software is a relatively small installation, meaning you can have the program started quickly. The interface is smart looking and can be navigated easily with no confusion and lack of direction. The simple design and navigation make working with this program a pleasure – and is highly recommended for newbie’s.

Any Downsides to Using It?

Despite being an incredible piece of software, SpeedyPC Pro does have one or two downsides. None of which that should dissuade you from buying, but just factors that you should be cautious over. Most files that the software finds and deletes are completely invalid – however, there is always the chance that the software may delete a program entry that hasn’t been used in a while. In all cases, you should have backups for your important files – but really, you are extremely unlikely to encounter this problem – just be cautious.

Can this Program Help Me?

Do you have a computer? If you answered ‘yes’, then SpeedyPC Pro can help you! It’s common to think that your PC doesn’t require any additional maintenance – after all, a lot of malware and dirty files can be affecting your computer without showing obvious signs of a presence. The harsh truth is that virtually every PC has some form of malware or dangerous file on it right now.

Even if your PC appears to operate at a smooth pace, it’s still a great idea to be safe and use a program like SpeedyPC Pro. Besides, sometimes it’s hard to actually notice that your PC is operating slower than it used to. Getting poor performance on your PC doesn’t just happen overnight. The build up to poor performance can be so slow that you don’t even notice it. For that reason alone, it’s highly recommend that you try it and get your PC performance back to a higher level of performance.

One in every five computers has some form of dangerous file on it right now. How sure can you be that your PC is safe if you aren’t using some form of detection software? Even if you don’t have ‘dangerous’ files on your PC, you almost definitely have useless files on your PC that are causing unexpected freezing and speed performance.

Finding software that can rid your computer of such files is near impossible, given the nature of the internet. With thousands of different ‘solutions’ it’s hard to know what to try and what to avoid. However, if you are looking for a reliable piece of software that can help you:

Remove spyware

Clean your windows registry

Protect your private info

Remove system clutter

Increase PC performance

Then you needed look any further than PC Cleaner PRO.

What Is PC Cleaner PRO?

PC Cleaner PRO isn’t your run of the mill PC cleaning software – it’s a whole lot more. The winner of multiple 5 star awards has become one of the most popular pieces of software to date – and is now seen more as a necessity for your computer than just another additional piece of software.

The software has been described as an ‘all in one’ PC health solution – and it does exactly that. If your PC is running at an unsatisfactory speed, then chances are it’s filled with files that are clogging it up and using up a lot of memory. When this happens, your PC runs slow, lags, crashes, freezes and causes other annoying problems. PC Cleaner PRO finds the files that are causing these problems and deletes them from your hard-drive at the click of just a couple buttons.

PC Cleaner PRO has been proven to help PC’s perform up to 200% faster than before, which is vital if you rely on using your PC everyday or for work. Getting set up and started has never been easier. The program is small and installs after a matter of minutes and can clean your PC just as quick.

Overall, the software has been designed to be easy to use and can help your computer performance at the click of a button.

PC Cleaner PRO Benefits

Using PC Cleaner PRO can benefit pretty much every PC owner. We know it helps our PC’s performance, but how does it do this more specifically?

By scanning your Window’s registry

Your Window’s registry, over time, can become cluttered with worthless files that ultimately slow your PC down. PC Cleaner PRO scans through your Window’s registry and finds the problematic files. Once the files have been found, you then have the option to delete them for good. Once these files are deleted, you should notice a great increase in your PC’s performance.

No more viruses or spyware

The internet is inundated with downloadable programs that either contains viruses or spyware. Viruses can wreak havoc on the performance of your PC and spyware can provide third party users with all kinds of your personal details. PC Cleaner PRO scans the entirely of your system, finds and eliminates the following:

Spyware

Trojans

Rogue software

Rootkit

Worms and parasites

Anything potentially threatening

Also PC Cleaner PRO wasn’t designed to protect incoming viruses from being downloaded; you can still find them easily with the software IF you have any.

No more crashes and freezing

As corrupt files build up on your hard-drive, they start to take their toll on your PC and begin to cause more frequent crashes and freezing. PC Cleaner PRO cleans and repairs these files so that your PC can run up to 200% more efficiently. Having a slow, lagging PC is one of the most annoying problems you will encounter.

Protect your privacy

During the time that you own your PC, you will leave a TONNE of personal information lying around on it. Unwanted history data is always stored somewhere on your hard-drive. If you want to get rid of ALL this data permanently, then you need PC Cleaner PRO to scan your hard-drive and clear up the data you want protected – of which can be:

Passwords

Personal details

Bank details

Other financial info

Many more

PC Cleaner PRO doesn’t just save your computer from malware and slow speeds. You can also use the program to:

Optimise web browsing speeds

Adjust system setting speeds

Recover wasted memory

Control start-up programs

Uninstall applications quicker

Clean ActiveX files

And much more

PC Cleaner PRO Down-sides

To get the full benefits of PC Cleaner PRO, you have to register your copy, which costs about $35. Given that there are some cheaper (or free) pieces of software on the market, it might be seen as a little much to pay. However, given the vast amount of features and benefits for your PC the software has, it can’t really be seen as a down-side atall.

The internet is full of poor software that won’t be able to find all the malicious files on your PC. PC Cleaner PRO finds them ALL and eliminates them from the click of a few buttons. The price is easily worth paying given the new state it can put your PC in – making the product worth a lot more than its asking price.

As with any ‘clean-up’ software, there is always a chance that you may delete a temporary internet file or something that had a certain use on your computer. However, PC Cleaner PRO has yet to show any signs of doing so – but this is a factor that you should always be wary of.

Does My Computer Really PC Cleaner PRO?

Absolutely. Sometimes it’s near impossible to tell what the ‘hidden’ files on your computer are doing. Some might be stealing the passwords to your email addresses and some might be stealing much more personal information. Without protection software like PC Cleaner PRO, you may be unintentionally sharing all sorts of your private information with other people.

The biggest mistake people make with their PC’s is assuming that nothing is wrong. Doing this is a disaster waiting to happen. Your PC could be infected with dangerous files right now without you evening knowing.

PC Cleaner PRO and PC’s go together perfectly. You will enjoy the following benefits from using the software on your computer.

Faster performance

Cleaner hard-drive

NO malware or viruses

Protect your private data

Much more

If you are serious about increasing the performance of your PC and protecting your private information and details, then PC Cleaner PRO is the ONLY software you will ever need.

It has a job to do – and it does it perfectly.

Are Windows Updates Really Necessary?

It can become something of an irritation to constantly update Windows if you use your computer on a fairly ongoing basis. Whether you’re doing time-sensitive work, have deadlines to meet, or just have 37 different tabs of research open, and really don’t want to close and re-open all those web pages- updates can be disruptive. How often has it seemed that just when you finally stopped ignoring the Windows update alert that was popping up every hour, took the time to close down your computer, and finally install them – two days later there is another update alert.

Yes, this can all be a hassle, but Windows updates are important for many reasons. Generally speaking, these updates keep your operating system and your computer running at optimal levels. They fix errors, add extra security from viruses and malware, update Internet Explorer to the newest version, and much more. We have all been guilty of ignoring the Windows updates alerts for days, or even a week or more, but they really should be installed as soon as possible. Think of these updates as vaccination shots, to prevent computer measles, chicken pox, influenza, mumps and other diseases. You wouldn’t ignore a hepatitis vaccination, right?

However, just like a flu shot doesn’t prevent all types of flu, Windows updates don’t prevent every vulnerability or problem on a PC. These updates don’t always download, transfer or install smoothly. There are Windows update errors that can occur. Some of these errors may be due to improper installation, failed connection, outdated software or outdated drivers. You may have even experienced some of these errors. One of the difficulties is, most of the time the errors are identified by a strange numerical figure, instead of plain language description of the problem. Windows does provide some direction as to how to solve some of the errors, but many involve complicated manual fixes.

Common Windows Update Error Codes and What They Mean

For a quick reference guide, listed below are some common errors that occur when updating Windows, along with brief descriptions, causes and solutions.

0×00000643 – Error Install Failure or also Fatal Error During Installation

This happens when one or all of the updates were downloaded, but not installed onto your computer. There can be several causes for this, such as problems with the .NET Framework, which may need uninstalled/reinstalled or updated. You can also check your error code log to view the reasons, but if you aren’t computer savvy, this will be complicated.

0×80070002 – Initialization Error, or also Error File Not Found

One of these error code titles could mean something as simple as a slow internet connection, in which case you can try again when your computer has a faster, stronger connection. Or, it could be due to something a bit more complicated, like mismatched data. In other words, you will not be able to install the updates until this is fixed, because not all files were downloaded. This problems occurs after your computer has downloaded and extracted the files.

0×80070057 – Invalid Parameter or Invalid Server Response

This error can be somewhat minor, or it can be very serious. If it is a minor error message, than Windows simply has a problem with your software distribution. Some people rename this folder, others delete them all. A far more serious cause of this error is problems with your registry, which is the storage area of all the computers files and folders. Make sure all drivers are updated as well, and never attempt to open or change your registry unless you have advance experience.

0x800706ba – Some of the Updates Were Not Installed or possibly RPC_S_Server_Unavailable

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, a message box typically accompanies this update error, which reads:

Failed: xx updates
Errors Found: some
Code: 800706BA

This error is often caused by a corruption in the system BITS files (Background Intelligence Transfer Service). The problem can be solved with a BITS repair tool, but you have to go the Microsoft website and download the tool, and you must know whether you have a 32 or 64 BITS system. Many people will not know the difference or how to find out, and the BITS repair tool doesn’t do anything for other update errors.

0x80072f78 – Windows Could Not Search for New Updates

This may be accompanies by a box or line that reads Errors Found. The cause behind this error is usually an error in the internet connection, or perhaps a firewall or proxy. Solutions to this, as suggested by Microsoft, are to temporarily disable any 3rd party anti-virus software and/or firewalls. But who wants to leave their computer vulnerable, just to update Windows? Especially when there is a particular virus that first manifests by not allowing Windows to update. If anti-virus and malware protection is disabled in this case, it could end up wiping out an entire hard drive. It’s best to first find out exactly why Windows is not being updating, or try other methods to fix the problem rather than to disable all protective software and firewalls.

Options and Solutions for Update Errors

There are plenty of other common errors when updating Windows, which are necessary updates for computer performance. The first option(s) are to check the error code, enter it into the Microsoft website or Windows help center on your computer, and resolve each problem manually as is suggested by either of these sources. But what if these suggestions don’t work? Not to mention, what if there are other errors and updates that haven’t been installed? Or, what if the solution is too complex for those who aren’t familiar with that kind of troubleshooting, or are uncomfortable with opening the specified files or folders?
There are other free solutions for fixing Windows update errors – automatically. Several update error repair kits are available online. With one download and program run, all errors are fixed, without endangering your registry by tampering with it, and without the hassle of trying to solve each error individually.

Windows Update not Working?

If Windows Update is not working for you we recommend using Registry Booster to repair your windows installation. Registry Booster will get to the root of the problem and repair any registry errors that are causing Windows Update from running correctly. You can download Registry Booster here and repair up to 15 errors for free!

Every computer user asks this question at some point in time. Even the newest computer will have markedly diminished speed after six months of continuous use. The slow degradation is not usually noticed until the user borrowers another computer. When the speed reduction is noticed, most computer novices are uncertain where to begin to look for the cause.

Causes for a Slow Computer

One or more of the following situations might exist for any computer that is used over an extended period of time without proper diagnosis and maintenance. Beware of free programs that offer to diagnose and repair computer problems because many of the easiest free programs to acquire will install unwanted spyware on the computer.

Software and hardware mismatch – The newest releases of very powerful software packages will not run on older computer hardware because of the processing speed and RAM requirements. Always read the recommended hardware specifications prior to installing software on the computer. If this mismatch has occurred, uninstall the software or upgrade the hardware to create a high-performing match.

Unnecessary programs running – When the computer requires extended time to boot, the Start-Up folder should be purged of unnecessary programs. Every program that is initiated when Windows starts will require memory resources whether or not the user will access that program.

Spyware or Adware invasion – Every internet surfer will pick up Spyware or Adware from sites that are visited. If the proper monitoring tools are not installed on the machine, these invasive programs will degrade computer performance and cause damage to the registry.

Viruses – Even the best virus-protection software can miss the tiny viruses that are not yet known. Accumulation of minor viruses can add up to major performance degradation if the system is not diagnosed and cleaned.

Hijacked browser – If the user visits a questionable website, certain programs can invade the computer and take over control of the browser settings. The first noticeable change is the homepage setting, and then the user must take action to regain control of the browser.

Broken registry – When performance degrades very gradually over a number of months, extraneous and broken registry entries have accumulated and must be addressed. The wise user will use Registry Booster 2011 to diagnose and correct all the entries within the registry. Significant performance improvement will be realized when the machine is rebooted.

How to Avoid Performance Issues

Every computer is overused and neglected, but certain activities should be performed regularly while others should be avoided at all costs. Computer health will make the user more productive and less stressed.

Install anti-virus and other protection programs – Every computer should have a healthy combination of tools that monitor the system for violation. These programs should be well-known and trusted by the industry.

Avoid peer-to-peer file sharing software – Certain permissions must remain open to allow two computers to share files, and these lower security standards are the perfect way for information to be stolen from the computer. Simply refuse to install these programs and find alternate means to send and receive files.

Resist installation of free programs – Some very effective programs are available free of charge on the internet. Other free programs are simply a lure to allow unauthorized access to the information on the computer. Avoid installing free programs that are not recommended by multiple reputable critics.

Visit only trusted internet sites – If a warning is displayed concerning the rating of a website that is about to be accessed, do not simply bypass the warning and proceed. Avoid these websites because other users have fallen into traps that have caused harm to their computers.

Automatically run Windows Update – Make certain that all Windows updates are downloaded and installed to maintain the version of the operating system. Security updates are an important element of computer health.

How to Correct Slow Computer Performance

Some standard actions can be taken to correct computer performance problems. If the computer user lacks the knowledge to make system-level changes, it is best to enlist the assistance of a knowledgeable friend or associate to improve computer health.

Add more RAM – One of the most effective corrective actions that any user can take is to add additional Random Access Memory to the computer. Additional memory can be acquired for a reasonable price and will improve computer speed drastically.

Deactivate or uninstall unused programs – All programs that are no longer used can be uninstalled from the computer hard drive. Additional free space on the hard drive also improves computer speed.

Determine the efficiency of monitoring programs – Some anti-virus software is the cause of computer performance issues because the programs are so powerful. Access the Windows Task Manager and evaluate the percentages of the CPU that are currently consumed by each of the programs that monitor the system.

Defragment the hard drive – Run the defragmentation program to remove fragmented files from the hard drive.

Run Registry Booster 2011 at regular intervals – Use the most popular registry cleaning software every month to assess and repair the information in the computer registry.

Registry Booster 2011 has become the most used registry cleaning program on the market over the past year. Maintaining integrity in the information stored within the registry will improve computer performance, and Registry Booster 2011 will assess, repair, and completely restore the registry.

Updates from Microsoft Corporation are automatically downloaded at intermittent intervals to keep each version of the Microsoft Windows Operating System running efficiently and securely. Windows software updates are created when programmers discover improvements that would enhance the computer experience for every Windows user.

Updates from Microsoft Corporation are automatically downloaded at intermittent intervals to keep each version of the Microsoft Windows Operating System running efficiently and securely. Windows software updates are created when programmers discover improvements that would enhance the computer experience for every Windows user. Frequency of the updates will vary depending on the importance and size of each update. During normal use of the computer, certain changes can occur to the registry that will prevent the Windows Update process from initiating in order to install the prescribed updates.

When the Windows Update program encounters one of the following situations, the program may download the update but will not apply the updates to the operating system.

“Windows Update agent is stopped” – The setting for the automatic Windows Update process has been set to “off.” New Windows installations and upgrades will set this value to “on,” but when repeated problems are encountered when Windows attempts to run the automated process, Windows will eventually change the setting to “off.”

“Invalid or unauthenticated user permissions” – The user must have “Administrator” privileges within the Windows operating system. Instead of allowing all administration functions to be performed by every user, selected functions can be allowed under the standard user by updating the permissions.

“Third-party firewall is blocking Windows Update server connection” – Certain software firewalls have extremely strict access controls that will prevent any external access. Internal settings on the third-party software can be changed to allow certain automated procedures to be performed. Specific research will be required to determine the necessary changes.

“Installed anti-malware software is recognizing Windows Update as malware” – Some malware prevention software programs will prevent all automated processes from initiating external contact with a website. Settings within the malware program must be set correctly to allow Windows Update to run automatically.

“Failure to connect to Windows Update servers due to server maintenance or failure” – The only correction for this error is to wait until the server is available. Because of increased occurrences of redundant servers, this error is rarely encountered.

Causes of Microsoft Update Failure

Software programs that are unfamiliar and new to the market can make changes to the registry that will conflict with other entries. Even if the new program is uninstalled on the same day, the settings for the automated Microsoft Update process can be affected. The user may, or may not, be shown an error message that reveals the problem.

While most error messages are self-explanatory, the most common cause for failure in the Microsoft Update process is broken registry entries. Microsoft Windows will alert the user when automatic updates have not been applied for the specified period of time, which is usually three days of computer use. When the alert is displayed, an explanatory error message is not always included.

There are some malware programs that will change certain registry entries in an attempt to violate the security on the computer. When these registry changes are made, the Windows Update can be inadvertently deactivated. This can be evidence of an unwanted attempt to access information on the computer.

How to Restore Automatic Windows Update

Many recommendations for reactivating Microsoft Update include manual command execution from the command line. Each command would fix only the stated file in the specified location. This method can cause numerous system problems if the user is not advanced in their knowledge of internal computer processes.Instead of wasted efforts attempting to figure out which program is in the way of the automatic Microsoft Update process, simply run the best registry cleaner software, Registry Booster 2011, which is produced by Uniblue. Cleaning the registry will resolve the problem most of the time since broken entries are repaired and original control files are restored. Registry Booster 2011 will update the “dll” files that are an integral part of most programs on the computer. When the most up-to-date copies of every “dll” file have been restored to the proper folders within the Windows operating system, the Windows Update process will run correctly. Registry Booster 2011 has become the most used registry cleaning software over the past twelve months. Download a free trial of Registry Booster 2011 to repair windows update errors.

Computer programmers use subprograms, add-ons, and applets because the functionality written into a smaller program can be accessed from any program that utilizes the required communication protocol. This practice reduces the maintenance and enhancement efforts for common functions that are useful from many software programs. Users who wish to perform certain functions within Microsoft Internet Explorer must install ActiveX Control. The ability to use these convenient functions also opens an avenue for unwanted access to the system registry that can cause errors to develop. Once the user is aware of the potential problem, measures can be taken to protect the computer from harm.

What is an ActiveX Control?

ActiveX is the name assigned to a set of applets that Microsoft Corporation created to perform useful tasks including spell checking and PDF file access inside Internet Explorer. When the user accesses a website that initiates a FlashPlayer request, for example, the user is shown a request for permission to download the ActiveX control associated with Flash. The website visitor who grants permission to install the Flash ActiveX control will then see the Flash applet displayed when the webpage is reloaded.

How to Install ActiveX Control

If this is the first time an ActiveX Control request has been issued, the user will be shown a light yellow message bar just below the address bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer. When the user right clicks on the message, a small menu with the option to “Run ActiveX Control” is shown. Clicking on this option will automatically install ActiveX Control on the computer.

How to Customize ActiveX Control

Security concerns can be addressed by changing the options for ActiveX Controls within Internet Explorer. With the Windows Internet Explorer browser open, follow these steps to modify the options associated with Active X Controls on the computer:

Select the Internet Options from the Tools menu.

Select the Security Tab within the Internet Options window.

Click on the Custom Level button, which will bring up another window of options.

Scroll down to the “ActiveX Controls and Plug-Ins” subheading.

Select “Enable” radio button next to the following options:

Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompting

Automatic prompting for Active X controls

Download signed ActiveX controls

Display video and animation on a webpage that does not use external media player

The rest of the settings should remain at their default values to retain security within Internet Explorer.

When asked, “Are sure you want to make the changes,” click “Yes.”

Click on the apply button on the Security Settings window.

Risks of Running ActiveX Controls

Many websites offer functionality that requires the user to download a specific ActiveX Control module. Care must be exercised to prevent damaging programs from entering the computer. Microsoft Corporation recommends using only their certified ActiveX Controls and denying access to all non-certified ActiveX add-ons. Certified partners are supported because of their unique functionality like Adobe’s ActiveX control that allows the user to read PDF files within the bounds of the Internet Explorer browser.

Soon after Microsoft created the first ActiveX Control, security concerns arose concerning the misuse of programs that appeared to be ActiveX Controls, but were actually malware. Registry changes that are made by the installation of ActiveX Controls can damage the computer configuration. Every computer user must be aware of the source of the ActiveX Control download and installation request. Investigation through a respected search engine can prevent unwanted registry changes from being performed.

Exercising Security Precautions over ActiveX Controls

Some of the most useful websites require the visitor to agree to download certain ActiveX Controls, but the choice still exists to leave the website or simply deny the download request. Some users have stopped using Microsoft Internet Explorer in response to unwanted registry changes. The Mozilla Firefox browser does not use ActiveX Controls and those websites will not present all of their content and functionality to the Firefox browser. Portions of the webpage will load in Firefox, but not certain features.

The prudent approach to using ActiveX Controls is to visit the Options tab within Microsoft Internet Explorer and investigate the meaning of the options under the ActiveX section. Each version of Microsoft Internet Explorer contains more advanced security to prevent unauthorized changes to the registry. Informed users are careful to download and install the most useful and respected ActiveX Controls but will refuse any obscure permission requests issued by fringe websites.

Repairing the Registry to fix ActiveX errors

Whenever a questionable ActiveX Control has entered the computer the best registry cleaner, Uniblue’s Registry Booster 2011, should be used to diagnose and repair any entries that have been corrupted. Restoring the registry’s health will keep the computer functioning at top speed without the occurrence of unwanted ActiveX errors.

System Restore Functions

The System Restore …

System Restore is always running in the background when the computer executes the Windows operating system. Each storage device attached to the computer is monitored separately for changes made through normal use of the computer system. At regular intervals, normally every 24 hours, System Restore will create a restore point, also called a checkpoint, on the computer even if no changes have been made. If the user deletes programs that are monitored by System Restore, the computer can be restored to any one of the previous restore points to repair any problems that surface.

System Restore Functions

The System Restore function within every version of the Windows operating system will perform certain functions when engaged by the user. Every system restore point is dated for easy reference by the user to find the best point in time to which the computer can be restored. When the user initiates the System Restore process, the computer:

Restores the computer to a previous state that is stored within an automated or manual restore point.

Performs the restoration without harming personal files because no files within the “My Documents” folder are accessed during the restoration.

Stores one to three weeks of restore points based on the size of the disk partition set aside for the System Restore function to use.

Will ensure that every restoration procedure is completely reversible. If the system restoration fails, the computer can be set back to the state prior to the initiation of the restore process.

System Restore provides multiple types of system restore points that can be selected by the user:

Initial system checkpoints – When a new computer is turned on for the very first time, Windows creates a restore point for the user to revert to in the event of a problem that is catastrophic in nature.

System checkpoints – The System Restore program will create a system restore point every 24 hours of calendar time or every 24 hours that the computer is running. If the computer is off for more than 24 consecutive hours, the software will create a restore point when the computer is booted.

Program name installation checkpoints – Whenever an installation program is initiated, System Restore will create a restore point prior to any system changes by the install process.

Automatic update restore points – Windows automatically downloads updates for the Windows operating system, and when those updates are applied, the System Restore function creates a restore point. If the Windows updates are downloaded and stored but not installed, the restore point is not created.

Manual checkpoints – The user is able to create a manual restore point whenever changes are made or programs are installed. Being able to create a manual restore point allows the user to remove unwanted changes if something goes wrong in the installation of a program or other system change.

Restore operation checkpoints – System Restore will create a restore point prior to actually applying the command to restore the computer.

Unsigned device driver checkpoints – Any attempt to install device drivers that are not certified and signed by the producer of the driver file is preceded by an automatic restore point.

Microsoft backup utility checkpoints – Whenever the user restores from an automated backup, System Restore creates a restore point to allow the user to remove the backed up files.

System Restore Limitations

When using the System Restore function to return the computer to a previous state, the user should realize certain truths about System Restore.

At the time when System Restore is manually disabled, all stored System Restore points are deleted. The program will create a checkpoint at the time that the System Restore monitoring is turned on again.

After a successful execution of the System Restore function to restore the computer to a point prior to the installation of a program, the program that was removed will no longer function on the computer. The program would have to be reinstalled.

The Uninstall function must be performed to remove a program. The System Restore function does not replace actual removal of the program from the computer. Either the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” feature or the program’s uninstall process must be executed to remove the program software from the computer hard drive and registry.

System Restore will monitor and restore files that have not been redirected. None of the settings in roaming user profiles will be saved in the System Restore checkpoint.

System Restore is automatically set to monitor all physical disk drives connected to the computer. Drives and partitions that are later omitted from the System Restore monitoring settings will not be included in the creation of any System Restore points, either manual or automatic.

Encrypted programs and files will be ignored by System Restore. If the user wishes to protect certain files from the System Restore process, the files can encrypted with System Restore disabled. When System Restore is turned on again, the encrypted files will be ignored when the next restore point is created.

Repair the Registry after Using System Restore

With so many changes occurring within the System Restore function, the registry will be modified repeatedly. Every restoration will create and delete multiple registry entries that must be corrected. The best approach to repairing the registry is to use the best registry cleaner, Registry Booster 2011, which is produced by Uniblue. I suggest downloading a Free Trial of Registry Booster 2011 before trying system restore. It might just save you a lot of time, trouble, and data loss!
